Ulrike Rosenbach

Female Energy Exchange. Rheinischer Kunstpreis of the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis County 2012.

15 May - 2 November 2014

On 14 May 2012 Ulrike Rosenbach received the Rheinischer Kunstpreis of the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis County for her life work. Providing an overview of more than 30 years of her work as an artist, the exhibition at the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn, which runs from 15 May to 5 October this year, gives evidence of how important Ulrike Rosenbach was for the development of video and performance art both nationally and internationally. It also shows that, in this respect, she has always been a model and stimulus for younger artistic positions. Moreover, the themes Ulrike Rosenbach has been grappling with for over 30 years, the role of the woman in society, the task of the artist as a politically minded person, and the relationship between body, space, movement, and images are of utmost relevance even today. With Ulrike Rosenbach, LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn is showing one of the most renowned German video-artists. Following her studies at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art with Karl Bobeck, Norbert Kricke and Joseph Beuys, she came into contact with the Happening and Fluxus scene in the 1970s. In performances, video films and video installations as well as photographs, Ulrike Rosenbach has firmly asserted her artistic position since then. The artist, who took part in the documenta several times, has taught as a professor at numerous important art schools, of late at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar in Saarbrücken until her retirement in 2007.

This exhibition has received generous support from the Art Foundation Kunststiftung NRW. A catalogue has been published by Kehrer Verlag to accompany the exhibition.
