The collection of prints and drawings at the LVR-LandesMuseum, which has been growing continually since 1963, devotes itself almost entirely to 20th- and 21st-century art. Although special attention has always been given to the Rhineland art scene, the holdings in general go far beyond this and reflect German graphics printmaking overall, not to mention the enrichment of works by important international artists. Over 5,000 prints owned by the museum and more than 2,000 permanent loans from the Mülstroh collection provide a comprehensive survey of the most important trends and positions from Classical Modernism up to today: the spectrum of artists represented in the collection extends from Erich Heckel, Carlo Mense, Hans Arp and Marc Chagall, via Joseph Beuys, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Andy Warhol, and Robert Indiana up to positions in the late 20th century and 21st century with Karin Kneffel and Marcel Odenbach. The LVR-LandesMuseum regular displays portions of its collection of prints and drawings as well as featuring a graphics highlight each month.
